Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace have you been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
How many of us leave the price tag on a gift? Not me! And you know why? Because I am not selling something, I am giving something to someone without charge. I am the one who paid for it and I want them to have it… without cost. It’s FREE!
They do not have to do any work for the gift, only receive it. We receive salvation, not by our works, but as the gift of God, packaged in Christ Jesus. It cannot be purchased by our “good works” and… it cannot be lost by our “bad works”.
Although we are not saved by our good works, (our good works do not produce our salvation), they do testify of our salvation and glorify God. (Matt. 5:16) Jesus said, “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me and I in Him”. (John 10:37-38)
I once heard a husband talking about an expensive gift that he had purchased for his wife. He said that someone had made the remark that maybe it was a little “too much” to pay for a gift. His reply was, “You think it’s too much, because you don’t know the value of the person I’m giving it to”.
Your salvation was the highest priced gift of all. It cost God dearly, but it was freely given to us. He did not hesitate to “pay the price”. Because “Jesus paid it all”, I am a “debtor, not to God, but… to the world”! (Rom. 1:14)
Freely we have received, freely we give!
Receive the free gift and let God help you write your story.
